“Byron Bay”
The Pass is situated between the Fisherman’s Lookout and the headland. The beach curves around, facing a northeasterly direction. Waves that refract around Cape Byron therefore run at near right angles toward the shore. These waves create hazardous swimming conditions but also internationally recognised surf. The positioning of the bay creates long, tubing right-handers that are considered world class and puts the Pass into the Top 15 best surf beaches in Australia. The Fisherman’s Lookout is a large wooden structure, with a platform at the top from which you can admire the beautiful view, the crowds of surfers, fish, dolphins, and sometimes whales. Many water activities are launched from the Pass, including daily snorkelling and diving tour boats, as well as whale watching boats during the whale season.
