Located 45 minutes south of Perth and just a five minute ferry ride across the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, Penguin Island is a beautiful, unspoilt nature reserve and one of Perth's most popular day trip destinations. The star attraction is the little penguin - the smallest species in the world. Rangers conduct three penguin feeding shows daily at the Discovery Centre. Getting to Penguin Island is easy. Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service. They also offer 45 minute glass bottom boat and 90 minute adventure cruises to see wild dolphins (99 per cent success rate), rare Australian sea lions and pelican rookeries, then explore more of the marine park before concluding on Penguin Island. At Penguin Island visitors can enjoy beautiful white sandy beaches, colourful reefs and seagrass meadows ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A network of boardwalks and look outs take in spectacular coastal scenery and allow a close up look at nesting sea birds without disturbing their natural environment. There's also an ideal picnic area overlooking a safe, sheltered beach, perfect for children to have a swim while parents relax under the trees and take in the views.
