“warm up in a naturally hot waterfall!”
This is a year-round adventure with most charter outfits leaving in the morning and picking up in the late afternoon. The best part about this trip is it encompasses everything that you would normally see on a whale watching trip with the Hot Springs thrown in as a bonus. Hot Springs Cove is actually on the mainland of Vancouver Island about 30 km north of Tofino and it is about an hour and 20 minute boat ride in each direction. You will be dropped off at a boardwalk trailhead that leads 30 minutes through an old growth cedar forest. The geothermal springs come out of the ground at 120°F and cascade down a waterfall into a series of soaking pools naturally cut out of the surf rocks. Prices for trips to Hot Springs Cove vary by vessel type, trip length and services offered. Contact a charter company or tour operator for current prices and travel conditions. Departures are in the morning and early afternoon. Hot Springs are less accessible by boat from November-February, but some Tofino whale watching charter companies do remain open year round. The Hot Springs are accessible year round by float plane. Consider staying overnight at the Hot Springs During peak summer months, the springs can be very crowded during the daytime. To truly enjoy this location, figure out some time in your visit to stay overnight. Camping and fixed roof accommodation are both available in Hot Springs Cove.
