The Historic Garrison District is Fredericton's historic and cultural heart. Located in the city's beautiful downtown, next to the St. John River, the Garrison is a centre for heritage, culture, craft and entertainment. This National Historic Site is where you'll find an enticing blend of musicians, artists and historic re-enactments.Attractions within the District include, to name but a few, the Fredericton Region Museum, the “School Days” Museum and the NB Sports Hall of Fame. Free daily or nightly entertainment in the summer includes the Changing of the Guard ceremonies, outdoor concerts, outdoor summer theatre, classic films “under the stars” and guided heritage walking tours.Quaint craft shops, formerly casemates once storing artillery, are home to handcrafted local souvenirs and artisans at work at their craft. Tour the Guard House and Officers' Quarters, join in a game of Croquet with staff from the Guard House or watch children participate in the "Day in a Soldier's Life" adventure and hear the stories and songs of the British and Canadian armies. The Garrison District plays host to several festivals including the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival.
