“If you want a beach that’s rough, raw and untouched, you won’t want to miss this hidden coastal treasure.”

Newdicks Beach is so secluded that most people who live in our region have no idea it even exists. To get here you do have to go the extra mile. It’ll take you around 30 minutes to drive from Tauranga to Maketu. Once you arrive, drive through the settlement and continue up the cliff to the very end of Town Point Rd. Here you’ll find a privately-owned dirt gravel road which will lead you over to the southern side of Okurei Point. You’ll need to pay a small fee to drive down or ( walk down. This access road is open in summer from 6am until 6:30pm, or in winter between 9am and 5pm. At the bottom, a vast expanse of white sand awaits you. Newdicks Beach is completely untouched. There are no toilets or other public amenities here, and there’s unlikely to be many other people around – if at all. You’ll find a small stream at one of the end beach which young children will love to play in. Or head out into the surf where you can swim and boogie board on the waves. Newdicks Beach is a great place to surf also but you’ll need to watch out for the odd submerged rock. This beach faces to the northeast and is offshore in a southwest wind. Bush-clad cliffs rise up behind you, providing a stunning backdrop and plenty of scenery to admire while you walk along the sand. However, there are no surf lifeguard patrols in this area so take care in the water.
