“A must for all visitors to the movie-capital of New Zealand.”
Way back in 2005, the Wellington Movie Tours was created to fill a gap in the local tourism market.
After Peter Jackson released Lord of the Rings to the world, there was a massive interest from visitors wanting to see the filming locations made famous by these movies.
With so many of our friends working at Weta Workshop, it seemed logical to show visitors around and introduce the local filming industry.
Over the years, the business has grown but we always strive to exceed customers expectations while keeping our prices low. In fact, we still have the lowest prices in New Zealand compared to any other similar tour experience.
But we have now also made a decision - something to enhance the customers experience. To keep our tour groups small. We see the faces of tourists on other local big-bus tours and know we have made the right decision. What would you prefer? Be part of a group of up to 11 or be a number in a group of 20 or 30?
Some of our passengers are big 'Rings fans, some have a mild interest and some haven't even seen Lord of the Rings. But they all join as strangers and become friends for the day. Even our tour guides aren't just taxi drivers. Instead they are there to also be your friend and try to make your experience a memorable one.
All our tour experiences include exclusive on-location movie clips and behind-the-scenes stories from the making of Lord of the Rings.
