“Could this be the world’s tastiest laneway?”
Tucked away in a little laneway in central Wellington (between Leeds and Eva Streets), you’ll discover a trail of boutique factories and eateries each with delectable goodies to try and buy.
Wellington Chocolate Factory
Wellington Chocolate Factory’s products are made with a commitment to ethical trade and transparency. It's New Zealand's first bean-to-bar factory open to the public, and the team create perfect morsels that come in beautiful packaging by local artists. Be sure to try their most popular bar, salted brittle caramel.
Golding's Free Dive
This zany little craft beer bar is decorated largely from recycled materials, with plastic buckets for lampshades and awnings made from old skis. Golding's Free Dive is a free house, meaning they can put anything they like on tap with no obligations to big breweries, which means the lineup is always fresh and interesting. Patrons can also order pizza from nearby Pizza Pomodoro and have it delivered to their table while they drink.
Leeds St Bakery
When brothers Jesse and Shep of Ti Kouka Café fame announced they were opening a new bakery, fans of their famous salted caramel cookies were thrilled. With a wealth of experience in the industry behind them, the brothers have helped transform Hannahs Laneway into a culinary hub with their fresh breads, pastries, sandwiches and of course those salted caramel delights. There are also a variety of gluten free options on the menu.
Pizza Pomodoro
One of the originals in the laneway, family-run Pizza Pomodoro has been producing authentic Italian pizzas in Leeds St for over a decade. A savvy collaboration with neighbouring Golding's means you can order and eat their pizzas from the comfort of your bar stool.
Fix and Fogg
Fix and Fogg produce their delicious products in a tiny 'nut buttery' tucked under the stairs. Their small-batch peanut butter is sold straight from the factory window, and you can pick up takeaway toast and merch too. Their range consists of four flavours: Smooth, Crunchy, Smoke and Fire, and decadent Dark Chocolate peanut butter.
Shepherd
Shepherd is one of Wellington's most fun restaurants. This popular spot down Hannahs Laneway serves refined yet playful food in a very stylish environment, all matched to a flawless beverage list. Would you expect anything less from a spot owned by Wellington hospo legends Shepherd Elliott (of Leeds St Bakery and Ti Kouka) and Sean Golding (of Golding's Free Dive)?
Hanging Ditch
A new edition to the Leed Street community, Hanging Ditch brings to the table curious cocktail creations, delightful décor and... liquor hanging from the ceiling! Make sure to try 'The Cabin in the Woods', a Hanging Ditch signature with rum, lime, pistachio orgeat and lime.
