The Otago Museum shares the natural, cultural and scientific stories of Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand and the world.
The Museum will be 150 years old in 2018, although many of the items in their collection are far older. The collection includes over 1.5 million objects, which come from around the globe These objects to tell visitors more about the world – from Dunedin to deep space, from millions of years ago to envelope-pushing research – through galleries, exhibitions, displays, tours and talks.
See the most comprehensive collection of articulated moa skeletons in Southern Land, Southern People, explore the treasures of early Māori in Tāngata Whenua or walk alongside a fin whale skeleton in Maritime. Get hands-on with science in Discovery World and surround yourself with hundreds of exotic butterflies in the Tropical Forest butterfly house. Journey to the edge of the universe in the Perpetual Guardian Planetarium and explore the beautiful nature of science in the world’s first laser-activated digital gallery.
