“A treasure trove of history housed in an historic building.”
The Teviot District Museum, in Abbotsford Street, Roxburgh, is housed in the districts first Methodist Church which was built in 1872 of local stone and was used as a school room for a period in the 1940’s.
The Museum is run by a committee of volunteers and opens on Sundays from 2pm to 4 pm between October and May, is closed for the winter but can be opened at any time by request. Many of the after hours requests originate from Roxburgh’s information centre.
The collection is based on the history of the Teviot Valley from gold mining to pastoral farming to fruit growing and latterly the Roxburgh Hydro construction, all of which are supported by extensive photographic displays. There is also an outside display of antique machinery and equipment pertaining to these activities.
