“Ride on Mt Cardrona Station which boasts stunning high country plateaus steeped in gold mining history with the towering mountains of the Cardrona Valley as your backdrop.”
Back Country Saddle Expeditions have been operating in the South Island of New Zealand for 33 years, 28 of them under the leadership of current owner Debs Thompson. They use Appaloosa horses (who were originally a mountain bred horse) to cope with the conditions of the Cardrona Valley.
Backcountry Saddles is one of the longest standing horse trekking operations in New Zealand and Backcountry Saddle Expeditions is a Qualmark endorsed Visitor Activity. Debs has spent most of her life around horses. She has been involved in the development of the Quality Tourism Standard for Horse Trekking and is a staunch advocate for natural horsemanship.
