“enjoy camping, backpacking, and hiking”

Visitors enjoy camping, backpacking, and hiking. Since Inks Lake stays at a constant level, droughts do not affect water-related activities such as lake swimming (unsupervised beach), boating, water skiing, scuba diving and fishing. Chris's Landing Grill offers fresh food and coffee, inside the park. Tours and guided activities include nature walks, geology hikes, fish seining, lakeshore ecology, Junior Ranger programs, and the Devil's Waterhole Canoe Tour. Check the calendar of events for dates and other information.

We arrived after 5 pm and found the park office closed. We had made our reservation 5 months ago. We went to our assigned campsite and within 2 minutes we had 3 park police there demanding we go back to get our park pass. As the 3 were standing there speaking with us one had his hand on his gun the entire time. We went back to office to find a small box on the wall with directions if the office was closed. The directions were mainly for people that did not have reservations. At the very bottom was for those who did. Again within 2 minutes of coming back from park office there were the same park police at our campsite. Temporary pass was on the windshield so we were left alone.

The following day the same 3 were out and about. Watching these 3 we decided Ink Lake State Park is not for us. A young man pulled up to the campsite behind us to join his friends. He has just gotten out of his truck when they pulled up next to him. His boat trailer was about a foot on the grass. He didn't even have time to say hi to his friends...issued a ticket.Again, hand on gun.

Loud partying after hours was never shut down but wow during the days the tickets and harassment sure continued.

I'm grateful and thankful for the park police but these take it to another level.

We camped here in Dec 2014. It was beautiful. Park was clean and quiet. Campsites are nicely spaced. Inks lake is one of our favorites.

We camped here in March, 2015 in a 35 foot fifth wheel. The rate shown does not include the daily park entry fee. We purchased an annual Texas park pass for $70 and the entry fee is free with the pass.

Check in was easy at Inks Lake State Park. Making a reservation at a Texas state park is non site specific and when we checked in the ranger asked if we wanted waterfront. Of course the answer was yes! She assigned us a beautiful back site with a paved pad, water and electric hookups, a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hook. We had a huge area beneath shade trees to set up our chairs and watch the world go by. There are two fishing piers, a marina and boat launch, canoe and kayak rentals, playground, camp store, and several hiking trails in the park. There is also a separate tent campground.

Our waterfront campsite was a great place to watch ducks, geese and all the water activities. We saw people paddling canoes and kayaks, floating on tubes, fishing from the lake banks, and fishing from motor boats. The sunsets were gorgeous.

We were there the week before Easter and had to leave on Good Friday because the park was full for the holiday weekend. We used the park as a base to explore around the hill country and to tour nearby Longhorn Caverns State Park. The park very popular and hard to get into on the weekends.

We would come here and camp again. Some noise from road that ran behind site 227, our site was not at all level but this could easily be overcome. We would select another more level site next time and also make sure we arrived when it was light at the park. Overall though we had a very relaxing time here.

We spent several days over New Year's camped at Inks Lake. The park was full but still very quiet. The restrooms and showers were very clean and the park staff friendly and helpful. We used Inks Lake as home base while we toured the Hill Country. Longhorn Caverns State Park, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, Fredericksburg, and the LBJ National Historic Site are all nearby. Don't miss the hike to Devil's Waterhole...it's fantastic!

Our rate is comprised of the $23 camping fee plus the daily access fee of $5 each for two people. I hate that Texas doesn't waive the daily fee for campers as it makes camping here quite expensive. We chose site 270 right on the lake with lots of shade from the trees. It is actually 2 sites but they don't sell the one next door, so it has a double wide asphalt parking area, grass on both sides and is quite far from the neighbors. Al the sites along the lake seem very nice. It was very quiet when we were here in January. However, with 350 or so campsites, I bet this place is kind of a zoo later in the year. The only negative thing in our visit was all the goose droppings at our site and in the grass. You definitely want to wash off the bottoms of your shoes after staying here! The park has several nice hiking trails - the short one to Devils Waterhole was very pretty. They rent all manner of watercraft and there is also fishing in the lake. The washrooms were clean, so I assume the showers would be as well, but I forgot to look.

Since we bought kayaks this has become our favorite place. The park is only 2 hrs from home so we go as often as possible. Reservations well in advance are a must especially if you want to camp on a weekend. Fortunately since retirement we can go during the week. We enjoy the section around the no wake area of the lake, just a bit more quiet and layed back. Kayaking is great especially at daybreak or down at Devil's waterhole watching the nuts jumping off the high rocks. Park is well maintained and the staff is top notch.

We stayed 2 nights and it was very nice. Had a lakefront back-in site - #88. (#90 is better if you can get it!).

We spent 12 exciting days traveling and RV camping in June of 2017! Our fourth stop on this incredible journey was spent at Inks Lake - Texas State Park. Inks Lake - Texas State Park is a beautiful and truly relaxing place to RV camp. Opportunities for fishing, hiking and swimming, boating and kayaking abound in this stunning park!
Our campsite was fairly level but was not in the best of locations as it was not real close to the lake edge and had too much late afternoon sun. The table was was so close to the road that one had to be mindful of traffic when sitting down to eat.
Public showers could have used some attention. There always seem to be the same pieces of paper towels laying on the floor when I went in. We did not use the public showers on the facilities.
I have posted several videos of our visit on my YT channel they can be found here...

We've been here five times over this past summer and have enjoyed each and every visit. Inks has some good hikes by day and the great lullaby of crickets at night. Get a State Park Pass and save not only on the entrance fees but 10% purchases and four half price camping coupons - it helps pay for the pass.
