Excellent park, very friendly, well maintained. Sites are flat and large. Wifi excellent. No cable but you don't need it, we got plenty of channels without it.

Perfect campground for us while staying and touring Charleston. The campground itself was very nice. Full hook ups. Workers were so friendly. It was a perfect place for us riding our bicycles or walking. Lots of things to do at the campground and very convenient to Charleston. The shuttles in town were perfect.

This is the probably the best campground I have stayed in for a long time. Close to where we were visiting relatives. Lots of great dog walking opportunities. Quiet at night. Clean and utilities all worked. Decent size site and paved roads and walking paths. This campground is located within a county park that has a lot going on. I'd love to be hear another time for other activites. I will come here again.

We may have had one of the best spots in the campground. Some of the others look very close to each other, but we had a wall of trees on either side of us in #26. This place fills up quickly and were full when I tried to reserve about 6 weeks prior, but I am very glad I asked if they had a waiting list. The alternative was a commercial campground that packs them in. Very beautiful, huge, well-kept park with: full hookups, miles of paved bike trails, fishing pier, climbing wall, big dog park on lake so dogs can swim, cabins, conference center, camp store, open air laundry with rocking chairs for waiting, $10 round trip shuttle to Charleston (traffic is awful so take the shuttle) and Folly beach, splash zone, playgrounds, picnic shelter, wifi (we used our own mifi). It is extremely well kept and feels pretty new. Although the campground was full, the park itself did not feel crowded. We were there early April, with few mosquitoes, but bring your bug spray (I recommend the natural mission essentials one they sell in the camp store, locally made, worked well). Grocery stores, etc very close. It was breezy at times, so carry light jacket. A lot to do in the Charleston area. This is not roughing it.

After traveling to beat a storm, we pulled into James Island County Park to find an absolutely pristine oasis draped in spanish moss. We had only booked for two nights, but we immediately wanted to stay longer. When checking in the let us know about a promotion of 30% off a stay of 7 days or longer. We knew we needed to take advantage of this and extended our stay.
There is rock climbing, paved trails, an amazing playground where friendly locals bring their children. It is close to downtown Charleston, Folly Beach and a fairly short drive to Magnolia plantation.
My only negative was that their laundry facility is outside. At least they have laundry!!

We did not want hookups but were told we had to have them if there were sites available. The park is very nice with very large sites. The bike trail was really nice, all paved. about 3 miles of paved trail. Wifi was iffy, they have a shuttle into Charleston for $10.00 per person. The traffic is horridness. It also rained the 3 days we were there.

This place is huge. Lake, boat ramp, bike trails, water park, big playground and ropes course. There was an Outdoor Festival while we were there with kayak and paddle boards to demo and I gather they have a lot going on at other times.

Campground is well kept and organized along a few manicured loops. A few laundry machines located outside at the bathhouses worked well. We had a full hookup site. No complaints!

15 mins or so to Charleston and actually a lot to do on James and Johns Islands as well or out at Folley Beach. Don't miss the Saturday Farmer's Market in Marion Square and a stroll down hip King St. We went out to see the 400 yr old Angel Oak too. Look up the Red Hen or Low Tide Brewing to stop on the way back.

Overall, this park was very nice and we enjoyed our stay. The location can't be beat, as it was just a short 15 minute drive to downtown Charleston, and the park is very pretty with lots of hiking trails and other activities.

The sites are generally pretty nice, with a lot of foliage between them which gives a sense of privacy. Unfortunately, because we booked later than usual, the only site they had available was one of the "buddy sites." These sites are basically two sites next to one another that share a common entrance. While it wasn't terrible, given how nice the regular single spots are, it felt pretty cramped.

I think it would be fine if they offered these sites at a discounted rate, but to charge people almost $50 per night for such obviously less desirable spots, just seemed a bit wrong. Assuming we could get a regular spot, we would stay here again.

Would that we had had more time to spend here (and Charleston) and that we had not had to put down our lovely dog last December, as she would have loved it here.
I was a bit apprehensive having read some reviews online telling of canceled reservations and rude staff so was happily surprised when our reservation was there (I had a receipt) and the staff some of the most helpful and gracious that we've encountered. We were greeted at the main gate of the park and directed to the campground office (there is a small camp store there, too) where we registered. And what a place. Were we the type to spend a lot of time in campgrounds when we are "on the move" this would have been one to do so but we have a bit of a schedule to keep to and are trying to at least hit some spots going up the eastern seaboard.
There is so much to do here with seemingly MILES of trails and bike trails winding throughout. And the dog park! Dog heaven! We watched dogs romping and cavorting on the beach and in the water, and on the grass of their special off leash area. Every dog owner we encountered said their dogs were exhausted and happy.
Our site, #81 was mostly private. It's the missing star as, while we had a bit of space and some small bushes between us and #80, on the other side we had an open area between us and #82. Being a friendly lot all of us RVers greet each other anyway so it wasn't a big deal but I did notice that some of the spots in the 90s looked far wider and much more private. But, other than that we could not have asked for a better place.
Had we chosen to drive to Folly Beach it was nearby but we spent our time in Charleston which was really convenient. There was a supermarket 5 minutes drive from the campground.
The bathrooms were clean, the showers good and we had good cell reception. There were kids on spring break so we heard them playing into the evening and that beautiful sound was the only one we heard other than birds chirping in the early morning.

I booked this site on my way in from leaving Beaufort. Site 60 was right behind the office, but surrounded by trees. It felt very private and I had a great view. This park really had much to offer. It felt like a state park. There were kids biking, people walking and there is a another section with a big pool. Restrooms were large and clean. I regret that I could only stay for a night, but I would stay here again.
