Road Trip Classic
Our Take
Weeki Wachee is old Florida roadside kitsch at its best. The mermaid show is just as cheesy as you think it will be, and yet deceptively simple—tryouts for new mermaids include a 120-foot dive into the spring, a 300-yard timed swim, and a 10-minute water-treading exercise. Weeki Wachee may be past its heyday, but admission includes the mermaid shows, a wildlife show (featuring a three-legged tortoise named Tripod), and a riverboat cruise. If you’re lucky, the park’s two Mold-a-Matic machines will be in working order, but if they aren’t, ask at the gift shop if they have any extra figurines for sale.
