“a zoo and campground”
With over 700 acres of pristine, conservation land and a wild animal park dedicated to education, Chehaw is a unique attraction for South Georgia. Being one of the only two accredited zoos in Georgia, aside from Zoo Atlanta, Chehaw continues to be devoted to the three areas it was founded on: conservation, preservation and education. From the Wild Animal Park to the endless recreational opportunities, Chehaw has an activity for every visitor. Come see what nature’s playground has to offer you! Chehaw’s campgrounds have 44 RV sites with 30 and 50 amp hookups, 14 pull-through sites, a comfort station with laundry, dump station and a group shelter. There are 18 tent sites with 15-amp electric hookups and water. Camper cabins are also available with the comfort of air conditioning. All camp sites have a picnic table and fire ring with flip-top grill for fun gatherings. Fishing is free with park admission. Limit: 5 fish /person Please do not bring in your own firewood. Chehaw's Naturalist Camp Canoe trips were a huge success, so by popular demand we will have several canoe trips available for children between the ages 8-13. Canoe trips will include basic canoe and safety skills, a box lunch and a chance to explore the Muckalee Creek. The trips are $30 per participant and last from 10am - 2pm with a maximum of 16 participants. Our first date is October 20, 2012 and we will have more dates to come in the Spring.

Such a special park in southwest Georgia, especially the African Veldt Ride. And don't miss feeding the two-hump camel.
We stopped as a day stop on our road trip, and it was more than we could even enjoy during our short stop! Great restrooms, covered picnic areas, and lots of family activities. We played disc golf, and this is now in my list of top courses to play with the family. It was well maintained & labeled, and was a good difficultly level with a variety of course obstacles. My son loved the playground and the BMX track, and there was even RC car racing. We definitely plan to keep this stop in future road trip iteneraries!
We were here mid-week in September when park was empty. Sites were doubled up with nice gravel pad on one side and grassy mud on the other. Ask for an even numbered site. Wildlife Center in walking distance. Many areas for kids to play. Must be busy on weekends.

There are a ton of things to do, like a BMX track, hiking trails, mountain bike trails and the biggest playground we've ever seen.
The park is super quiet and safe. There are locked gates at night.
There are shower and washroom facilities in the RV loop. The showers don't offer much privacy and they're not cleaned very well. There's also a washer and dryer in the same building ($1 for a wash, $1 for the dryer), but the dryer broke twice while we were there.
The spaces are spread apart well enough that you don't feel like anyone is right on top of you. There was a lot of room for our 3 kids to run around all day long.
Overall, it was a great place. I'd be happy to stay here again. We only planned on staying for a week, but with no rush of having to move on, it turned into 28 days.

My experience with campendium reviews is that I generally agree with my fellow reviewers. This campground is a huge exception, to the point that I am wondering if the only review before mine was completely contrived. It began with a lame park attendant who looked at our Airstream travel trailer and asked if we were tent camping! That was our first sign of things to come, he then gave us a receipt for a $7 Visa transaction when we paid $20 cash for our site & asked us 3x if we were staying only one night. ??? Distracted apathetic unengaged youth. Sigh. Now onto the safety issues: huge loose tree branches about to fall on route to the restroom; rusty open manhole cover hidden in the tallgrass near playground; no vent for laundry dryer so 5" of lint accumulating a fire hazard at only exit for women's non-ADA accessible rusty, paint chipped bathroom. Then we witnessed speeders driving too fast unchecked thru the park. They also do not pick up litter in the campground or the park, so it accumulates in the full disc golf trash baskets & firepits and gets ground into millions of disgusting bits by the lawnmower. Yuk to dozens of cigarette butts and beer bottle caps in my fire pit! On the plus side, the entrance sign is alluring (and maybe why with the false review we didn't ask for a drive thru - a lesson I will not soon forget) and the new mini water park & BMX track looked fun.

Lovely lady at park entrance found us a spot despite not having a reservation, and the charming camp host met us to show us to our spot. $28 for full 50A hookups is great! The gorgeous, picturesque campground is beautifully maintained with mown grass, plenty of trees, and nice level, long sites. We did have neighbors but they weren't super close. Very easy access and big rig friendly. Verizon gave us 2 bars and was very acceptable. Loved this place and will for sure return!

Stopped here for a quick overnight, so we didn’t check out the zoo. A large park with a very roomy campground. Gravel / grassy sites mostly level, I did not unhook for our overnight. Great staff at the office brought me to the site. $33 for a full hookup spot. Verizon a weak one bar signal, the the Wi-Fi worked well at our site. A solid 4 star location.

The good was lots of different things to do with kids. It also has a zoo on site, which was great.
The ate attendant didn't seem to know what he was doing and very slow. The bath house needs updating. The park sinage needs to be better marked and there was lot's of highway noise.
