“This Place is No Joke”
Hollywood has the Oscars and Walk of Fame to celebrate their best, but how does the clown subculture honor the achievements of their own? In case you were worried these jesters weren’t getting their due- or maybe if you were looking for the right place to cure yourself of your coulrophobia- there’s a museum for that. The International Clown Hall of Fame of Balaboo, Wisconsin was founded in 1987 to commemorate the finest motley fools of international television history. You may not find any A-list celebrities here, but if you want to see the rubber nose of Bozo the Clown, you’ve come to the right place. And It’s more than a memorial to funnymen of the past- they regularly schedule performers to put on tributes, as well as offer workshops to aspiring clowns. There’s even a clown residency here. If you really want to get dedicated to the art of clowning, you can even purchase a membership that give the buyer official card-carrying status to exclusive events and special access to memorabilia. So if giant shoes, pancake makeup, and memories of Stephen King’s It don’t give you the chills, you might actually enjoy an afternoon here.
