Historic Treasure

Our Take

As the site of the JFK assassination, this is a great stop to re-live and learn more about the history around the event. Even if you think you know about the assassination, you’ll learn a lot about it and the political climate of the 1960s, one of the most interesting eras in American history. You receive a device that gives you an audio tour of the museum, and it’s surprisingly informative. It’s not the best for small kids, but the fact that it is part of the Dallas City Pass is a big plus.

“where lee harvey oswald fired the fatal shots that killed JFK”

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is located on the sixth floor of the Dallas County Administration Building (formerly the Texas School Book Depository) in downtown Dallas, Texas, overlooking Dealey Plaza at the intersection of Elm and Houston Streets. The museum examines the life, times, death, and legacy of United States President John F. Kennedy and is located at the very spot from which Lee Harvey Oswald, according to four government investigations, shot and killed the President on November 22, 1963. 30 minutes after the shooting, Kennedy died at Parkland Memorial Hospital. The museum's exhibition area uses historic films, photographs, artifacts, and interpretive displays to document the events of the assassination, the reports by government investigations that followed, and the historical legacy of the tragedy. The museum is self-sufficient in funding, relying solely on donations and ticket sales. It rents the space from the County of Dallas.

The exhibit is not inexpensive. $25 for each adults. There is a nice gift shop where I purchased an ornament and a coin for momentos. Erik Swanson, an associate, helped us with a map and... Read more
