“A scenic wonderland at 7,000 ft”
Blue Mass Scenic Area is located in the Kern Mountains in White Pine County, Nevada, close to the Utah/Nevada border. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, Blue Mass Scenic Area is loaded with streams and springs, old cabins, granite cliffs, pinnacles, and lush vegetation. The nearest town in Ely. Ely is the largest city in White Pine County. Ely was founded as a stagecoach station along the Pony Express and Central Overland Route. Ely's mining boom came later than the other towns along US 50, with the discovery of copper in 1906. Though the railroads connecting the First Transcontinental Railroad to the mines in Austin and Eureka have long been removed, the railroad to Ely is preserved as a heritage railway by the Nevada Northern Railway and known as the Ghost Train of Old Ely.

The greenery and granite cliffs of this park make it well worth a stop. Do some hiking along the springs and streams, or just take a bit to poke around the abandoned homestead, or just pull over to appreciate the unique beauty.
