Stayed here in September as part of an Airstream rally. A really great place. Clean, quite, plenty of space. Wife loved the horses and did two trail rides. Staff is super friendly, store has a good variety of stuff and memory items.
Well located just up the road from the town of Grand Lake. Many restaurants if you want to eat out. Walking trails around the lake.
You are in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Drive north and you can go over the pass on Trail Ridge Road into Estes Park. WRR is on the south side of Rock Mountain National Park. Wildlife is abundant and easy to find an see.

This was a rustic campground, grass sites, and lots of sites with corrals for those with horses. Bathrooms were clean, nice showers. ATV rentals on site made for a great afternoon exploring. We enjoyed heading into Rocky Mtn NP whenever we wanted, loved the evenings spotting moose and elk. Attended a play in Grand Lake...excellent.

The sites are level and not crowded. The wind can really start howling here, and it can sometimes kick up the dust. The park has lots of activities and is a good choice if you want to visit the west side of RMNP and the Town of Grand Lake.

This is a beautiful campground that has everything you’d want from a Rocky Mountain experience. The sites were spacious and wooded, wildlife was abundant, and it was quiet and peaceful. We had deer in our site every day; a bull moose walked through it one morning and we saw elk just outside of the campground every day. It is located extremely close to the Rocky Mountain National Park’s west entrance and Kawuneeche Visitors Center, and close to the Grand Lake downtown area. You can hike right into RMNP from the campground, and the Colorado River runs right by the entrance. The campgrounds website, we feel, does not do this place justice, as there is so much more to do here than we realized: on different days they offered wagon hay rides and marshmallow roast ($), horseback riding ($), weekend breakfasts($), ice cream social ($), square dancing (including lessons), and more. Bathrooms were very clean and well kept. This is one of our favorite campgrounds of all time.

I've been coming to Winding River every summer with my family since I was a little girl, so I suppose I'm a bit biased. But having been a full time RV'er for several months now, I can say with more RV parks under my belt that Winding River is still one of my favorites.
There is tons to do there: trail rides, hikes, ATV trails, fishing, disc golf, a playground, etc. And that's all without ever leaving the campground! You can also drive about 5 minutes to town for the shopping, boating, etc. available there.
The sites are very well spaced for the most part in the electric & water section; I've never stayed in the full hookup area in the back because it's basically a parking lot in a field. There are a couple of FHU sites near the front if you can score one. But otherwise, I'd recommend just doing water & electric if you can.
The whole area is so peaceful and quiet at night, though in high summer season on weekends there are lots of groups staying here who can get a bit loud. That said, the staff do enforce quiet hours after 10 p.m. They are all so friendly, and the owner Wes is just one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He still cooks the pancakes himself at the pancake breakfasts - see if you can catch one that he flips over his back onto your plate!
Overall, it's a great place for families to come be outdoors together. You're right on the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park but with the benefit of far more trees than you'll find at the NP campgrounds - plus you can walk your dog around this park! Just watch out for the moose. You're basically guaranteed to see moose here.
Only downside I can think of is the price, though they do give a discount for Good Sam and for longer term stays. And you get a lot for your money! Bath houses are very clean and well-kept. They're also new! Updated within the past couple of years.
Love it here. It feels like home to me.

Great place. Very well maintained we had a good 2 nights. I like the fact that it has 2 dump stations and a nice little store for any basic necessities you may need. Lots of nice things for kids too do. We will be coming beck.
It's been 12 years since I last camped at Winding River Resort and it was great to be back. The resort is only about 10 - 15 minutes away from downtown Grand Lake and right outside the west entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The kids absolutely loved visiting the small animal farm where they got to pet the pigs, goats and sheep and watch the chickens and ducks in their pens. The campground is large and spread out with nice views and most sites being pretty level and fairly well spaced apart. Some are in the open and others are nestled in the trees and brush. There's two separate bath houses at each end of the resort and both are very clean with nice showers. There's so much to do with onsite horseback riding, atv rentals, fishing or wading in the adjacent Colorado River and beautiful hikes right outside the resort. Got to watch a bull moose cross the river on one of our hikes! Several times over the course of our stay, we encountered one of their burros and a horse wandering free in the campground which was pretty cool to see. I asked a staff member if that was normal and he said "Yeah...isn't that great!?" I can only think of one thing I didn't like and that was the mosquitoes. They weren't bad the first couple of days but were pretty annoying the rest of our stay. Even with the mosquitoes, I'd still highly recommend this resort and will be back in the fall for another visit.

My family and I spent 2 months traveling 7,000 miles from Midwest to west coast. WR remains a standout park for all of us. It’s on the Colorado River where it’s narrow, clear, and cold. We saw many fly fisher people. There is a farm with goats, ducks, sheep, calves, chickens and rabbits, not to mention the horses, donkey, and pony. Some who wander around the campgrounds. There is ample laundry facilities and the bathrooms are spotless and luxurious for and RV camp.
We stayed in three different sites to accommodate our desire to stay longer than we booked. Honestly we never wanted to leave.
You can trail ride on horse back or for small children give them a pony ride around the park.
I can’t wait to return in non covid times to experience the chuck wagon breakfast.
Highly recommend without reservation.

We spent 4 days at Winding River RV Resort. The site we were in was plenty big, however, it was right on the main road leading to all of the additional campsites. The site also did not offer any shade from the scorching Colorado sun. If you're a young family with children, there are activities to keep you busy. They offer ATV rentals, horse trail rides, pony rides for the children, and a petting farm. There is a playground, frisbee golf, and basketball court. Overall it was a nice place for a young family, but not for a couple of retired people.

Great location at the Grand Lake entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park (FYI, you need reservationsto get into the park on weekends and holidays). Wildlife everywhere!.
Close to the nice town of Grand Lake (on an actual lake) with shops and restaurants.
1.5 hour drive up a nice wide mountain pass to Estes Park.
Horseback riding, animal farm and ATV rentals on site.
Nice, clean restrooms, nice gift shop with snacks, drinks, ice, propane. They have free air for tires.
My only issue was that the women's showers had very low water pressure and did not get warm. I couldn't use it bc I was cold and needed a warm to hot shower. I was the only one in there at the time so not sure what was going on.
