“amen!”
There is a 19-story cross located next to Interstate 40 just northwest of the town of Groom's limits. This 190-foot-tall free-standing cross can be seen from 20 miles away. Surrounding the base of the cross are life-sized statues of the 14 Stations of the Cross. Inspired by this cross, residents of Effingham, Illinois, erected a similar cross that is 8 feet taller. Many claim this cross to be the largest in the Western Hemisphere. However, it is smaller than the cross erected in the Valle de los Caídos in Spain, located at and elevated 500 feet overground. The cross is also 18 feet shorter than the 208 ft cross at the Mission Nombre de Dios in St. Augustine, Florida, and shorter than the 213-foot-tall Lakeuden Risti cross-shaped church tower in Seinäjoki, Finland. The movie Leap of Faith was filmed on location near the site of the cross in Groom, but the movie was filmed before the cross was built.

This place is incredible. A must-see for any Christian. I enjoyed telling the story of Jesus's crucifixion to my children in such a visual way. And we were all blown away by the enormity of the cross. Looks big from the highway, but you just don't realize the scale till you get up next to it. Great gift shop, excellent photo ops, and just a quick jump off the highway. Highly recommend!
One of the most beautiful places I have seen and such a wonderful description of the 12 stations- very spiritual, and a wonderful way to teach your young children of you are indeed religious or enjoy learning about religion. The woman who worked In the gift shop was very nice. I would love to go again.
Worth the stop! Take Exit 112 from either direction off I40 and you won't have any trouble finding it. Using the Navigate link and choosing Google Maps took us to the middle of nowhere and the giant cross was nowhere in sight!
Very Spiritual and Inspirational... Absolutely Beautiful.. Even the children enjoyed it ... I would totally recommend stopping if you are a nonbeliever.. It might just change your mind.
Definitely a great place to stop on our way to Colorado Springs and stretch our legs. A beautiful and powerful scenery. There is a very nice gift shop and restrooms as well. Not difficult to find. Exit 112
This thing is absolutely massive! You can see it from the road though and unless you want photos it's not necessarily worth the stop.
We found it, it was off exit 110
This was such an amazing sight. We stopped about 1:30am and it was breathtaking. Kicking myself I didn't get to stop in the daylight because they have a gift shop that also has stuff for different holidays. This is a must do and I will be stopping again!!
A beautiful way to walk through the stations and talk about the sacrifice and obedience of Jesus. Our kids loved reading each stations plate and talking about what was going on. The tomb, last supper and crucifix scene are well done. The statue to the side of Michael trampling Satan was the answer to one of our clues for our 15 day Amazing Race family trip out west. The gift shop is also a great spot to visit and the bathrooms are really nice! You can see the cross from the interstate, even though it almost gets lost in the sea of windmills!
More than just a giant cross. This is a very cool sculpture garden that tells the story of Jesus' journey to crucifixion. A beautiful installation! There is also a gift shop on site and clean bathrooms. A great stop for the family or anyone.
