Pillars shaded red, pink, white, yellow, and gray are only the start to the greatness of Kodachrome Basin. There are also natural arches, views for days, and a stunningly stark landscape viewable from numerous well-planned trails. If ever a state park was made to be photographed, it is Kodachrome Basin. In fact, in 1948, members of the National Geographic Society visited the scenic park to photograph a feature for the magazine, and gave it the nickname “Kodachrome” after the popular Kodak film of the day. Kodachrome Basin covers 2,240 acres of canyon country and is surrounded by Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument on three sides. With its close proximity to other popular destinations down Cottonwood Road, it makes for a spectacular base camp or a stopover on an event-filled Road to Mighty itinerary. The colors and shapes of the huge rock formations here are different than at Bryce Canyon or Zion, and some think it's because this spot used to be almost Yellowstone-esque, with hot springs and geysers that eventually formed the stones we see today!

Just epic. We took our 43 ft fifth wheel and stayed in site KO22 with full hookups for a week. Our two kids absolutely loved exploring the area. The campground has a little rock wall at the visitor center along with a great disc golf course we enjoyed. This is probably one of the best kept state parks I’ve ever been to, and as a full time RV family, that’s saying something.

This is a must see! You need to plan for the longest and most beautiful scenic drive this state has to offer leading to a breathtaking park. This is a diamond in the rough. You get to walk straight up and touch monuments with nobody else around, except the cows you are bumping shoulders with. There is camping spots with water and electricity- we didn't stay there so I can't speak to it. From the bottom, to the park/ sight seeing and out again is at least three hours. Plan accordingly. Also, if you are a hiker this is a place for you! We aren't, and still had a great time
