Reviews
Website stated they were open but place was closed. Tiny not worth the time.
Stopped by last year after dropping off our daughter at college, and just went to pick her up and stopped by again to show her the fort. Even though the museum wasn’t open, we still roamed the property and checked out the cool historical buildings. It’s a great stop if you want to stretch your legs. It’s right off the highway.
Across the road is a cute coffee shop, Cabin Coffee which has good coffee and sandwiches, and nice service.
If you call in advance to confirm they are open, you may be fortunate enough to meet Ken. Ken gave us a personal tour of the museum. What a gracious, caring, and knowledgable person! He was so patient explaining the exhibits while we snapped pics and texted jealous friends and family. You could tell he loved the area, the fort (he’d been there as a young boy), the artifacts, the history, the donors, the volunteers, the cars and other machines that he can tinker with (he got most of them working as a trained mechanical engineer), and watching our enjoyment. He shared the settlers’ history, but also about the indigenous peoples’ experience and perspective.
Fort Belmont was definitely a highlight of our trip across several states. we would definitely stay here again. Thank you, Ken!!
