“Swim, Fish, and Boat!”
Swim, fish, or boat the waters of Split Rock Lake, the largest body of water in Pipestone County. The lake is the predominant feature of this park. Stop by the Beach Side Trail Center for an excellent vista and to discover more about the area. Seven miles north of the park is the famous Pipestone National Monument. Although Split Rock Creek does not have a full-time naturalist on staff, interpretive programs are offered at the park from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day. Check at the park for a schedule of activities or contact the naturalist at Blue Mounds State Park who also coordinates the programming at Split Rock Creek. Lake and prairie animals inhabit the park. Meadowlarks, beavers, and waterfowl can be seen along the lakeshore. The southern, wooded part of the park is home to woodpeckers, fox squirrels, and other woodland animals. A large dam was completed in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The dam was constructed of Sioux Quartzite, a hard red rock that was quarried locally for use in the building of the dam and nearby highway bridge. The park was developed to provide water-based recreation for an area of the state that has few lakes.

Easy overnight stop before driving to northern Minnesota. Not too busy, even on the 4th of July weekend. Multiple trains throughout the night made it somewhat difficult to sleep, but otherwise, the sleeping areas were nice. Bathrooms were very clean.

With the exception of noise from the adjacent road and the occasional train thundering by, this small campground was very quiet and peaceful (you can even hear the birds twittering). Close to Pipestone NM. Sites are generous in size but with limited privacy from foliage. Electric and non but only one water spigot near the bathrooms. Bathrooms were clean as was the shower, however, in the women’s shower, it was necessary to hold the button continuously for water flow (not the case for the men’s shower). Only other downside is there is not much to do in the shoulder season (mid-May). In summer you can rent kayaks for the small lake. The price includes the $7 vehicle fee.

This was a beautiful park with a nice site with a great view. The bathrooms were clean. There was a picnic table and a fire pit with a grill. Firewood was available at the office. Cell service was great. There was some train noise but not that bad. It is close to Pipestone National Monument as well.

Pretty nice for hiking and kayaking. Not many trails but they are well kept and clean.
Nice easy hiking club trail. Would be a good park for kids
