“see the 25-ft waterfall”
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park contains the headwaters of Sonoma Creek. It runs through gorge and canyon, across the meadow floor, beneath scenic rock outcroppings, and is surrounded at times by redwoods and ferns. A 25-foot waterfall flows after the winter rains. There is a self-guided nature trail along Sonoma Creek that starts near the picnic area. Dogs must be on a leash under your control at all times. Dogs are not allowed on trails. Dogs must be in a tent, camper or enclosed vehicle during the night. Within the oak woodland and chaparral, the park has 25 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding.

Sugarloaf Ridge is amazing. Hiking is plentiful, from short easy hikes to killer mountain ones. A pleasant little creek runs through the campground much of the year, the park is exceedingly well-kept compared to many state parks in CA. Mid-week it was really quiet and we loved our stay. No wifi or cell reception, period, except at the top of Bald Mt.
Access is up a windy, steep road, but it is paved and our truck and 24' trailer had no problem. One of the only public observatories in the western US is onsite and they do star parties many weekends. There is a scale model planet walk too, where you can walk from the 'sun' all the way out to Pluto. An amazing after dinner treat is to walk to the end of the campground (between sites 24 and 25) and take the trail about 5 minutes along, where you will find a bench with the most amazing view. You'll think you are in the Swiss Alps or some other exotic place.
Note it is an alcohol free campground, but as long as you are discreet and well-behaved, you'll be fine. The folks running the campground want it to remain a family place, not a party place.
We will go back again and again.

Recovered well from recent bush fire. Sites vary from very small up to about 30 ft. Nature trails well marked. Staff helpful and friendly.
Shower block well kept , no heating(can get cold up here), low pressure in showers. No wifi / phone reception. In addition to $35 per night without hookups, additional cost for showers of 25c p.m. Couldn't find a dump station.

Really beautiful park. Nice bathhouse, very clean. (uses quarters, has hot water) Rangers were friendly. Many dear, turkey and various kinds of birds around. Was concerned about traversing the tiny one lane bridge into the campground but it was fine. Booked solid on the weekend. Wifi from the visitor's center almost reached my site!

We we're in the area (Santa Rosa) for doctors visits of all things...But this Park makes a peaceful, dark, and quiet stay compared to the busy city.
Early Spring time is nice, it's cool, and green. And very quiet off season/mid week. The creek was flowing and our Lab loved taking multiple dips. No dogs on any trails.
Access is a bit hairy and going up that Adobe Canyon Road to the Park is a short, narrow, and winding bit of a drive pulling a small trailer. The gravel campsite parking pads seem short. Not for big rigs.
The fire rings are those really tall ones, not good for enjoying sitting around...There are showers here, 25 cents a minute. Make sure and get a site in the sunny area if here in the cooler months as it gets much colder (39-40°) at nights up here at higher elevation. Zero cell service or wifi in the campground. Limited wifi at the tiny visitor center. Ok for a couple of nights.

The sites are close-ish together. Some of the sites are wooded, but most are on the edge of the trees, with little in between sites. The park is well cared for and the staff were helpful.
All of the sites look pretty level. We were off by about 4" from front to back in our van, so just a little leveling was needed. Sites aren't very big, there were a number of vans and small trailers around. Mostly tents.
Hiking was great, with lots of options. I imagine nearly everyone could find a suitable hike. We were given a map and printout of hike suggestions based on time + intensity.
Being a summer weekend there were lots of families and groups w/ an abundance of kids biking and running about. Most were in the main loop.
Absolutely no cell service (Verizon) once we started down the road toward the park. Wifi was available around the Visitor Center building. There's both a free (limited speed and perf) or paid option. We used the free option a few times even we'd pass by on a walk just to check in on the world. Sometimes the wifi would reach to some of the campsites -- including ours. But that was spotty. Always worked when near the Visitor Center.
Visitor Center store had some essentials. The only thing we bought though was some ice cream after hiking.
When leaving I asked about dump stations and was given a list. I've uploaded a photo of the list.
We'd absolutely return to this lovely spot and camp again!

This place is amazing. So peaceful and quiet. Lots of great hiking and wildlife.
I wouldn't come here again though as there's a steep dip on the bridge and we bottomed out quite significantly. In an unlifted 27ft Airstream I'd advise taking and long trailers in here.
