“1500 acres of nature”
Dedicated in 1975, 1500-acre Clinton State Park is located on the northeast shore of Clinton Reservoir. Four miles from the City of Lawrence, the park serves the neighboring community well. The park’s nearly 600,000 annual visitors travel from across the country, passing through or as their destination. In either case, compliments about the facilities and the natural beauty of the park are common. The balance between recreation areas and natural areas within the park is carefully managed. Wildflowers and prairie grasses divide the turf and then blend gracefully into the timberline. Native wildlife is abundant and easily viewed along park roadways. Whitetail deer, turkeys, waterfowl and songbirds add a rich texture to the sightseeing experience. As the surrounding area becomes more urbanized the importance of the park and the experiences it provides becomes ever more critical in meeting that “need to escape”.

Lawrence is a great town to check out while you're on the road and this park is in a great location to it. The park is HUGE and there are a lot of spots, but they're really spread so you get a lot of space. Our spot had a huge area behind it for the dog to play in as well. They have a boating area and a lot of trails to hike!

This was one of the largest campgrounds we've ever seen, with hundreds of sites. During the week it was 3/4 empty, but more folks showed up for the weekend. Our "premium" site in Campground #3 had 50 amp electric and water (no sites have sewer). We had to trim some low hanging branches in order to back into our site, and we required several leveling blocks under our back wheels to get level. Many other sites looked fairly level so we just got unlucky. The park offers long-term/seasonal camping and we saw a number of run down/very old trailers, even one with a household washer and dryer hooked up outside, which surprised us for a state park. The sites are nicely spaced, and the park is attractive and clean. Being such a large campground, we always had plenty of places to walk the dog, including on several trails around the park. There's a very small beach area on the lake, but no dogs are allowed in the beach area. The showers were not good... the water wasn't hot, and with no curtain between your shower area and changing area, your clothes get wet while showering. We ended up doing navy showers in the RV all week rather than use the campground shower. With the $5/day park entry fee, the rate came to $26/day for us. If staying more than 5 nights, the annual pass at $25 becomes a better deal. We got AT&T and Verizon signal but it was weak and slow so we set up our booster which made things better. We found the area quiet and relaxing and would consider returning if we found ourselves in the area again.

Not too far from town but very close to the lake. Host is very friendly and helpful.
Premium sites have a lot of shade and are pretty level. Sites are grassy or gravel.

Our first night was at site 385, which was not bueno, but Hey- we were in the park on a sold out night, so can't complain. Loved the trails in the woods down to the beach and walking on the paved roads. So close to KC and so easy to get in and out of. Loved it and will likely return again soon.

I was here in January (camper) $21 and early April (tent) $10 both times the park was still in off-season mode even though the April weekend was warm and nice, they open up in mid-April no exact date. There are hiking trails, MTB trails, frisbee golf, a beach, multiple boat ramps, many people fishing off the shore too.
Easy access to Lawrence if you need supplies. The bathrooms are large clean and the winter bathroom was heated.
If you are camping and don't have a Kansas parks pass you will need to purchase a car sticker on top of the site fee. $5 a day.
I found my cell service spotty in the winter but with the Netgear MIMO antenna I had good WiFi.

Passing through cross country, easily booked a site on what is a great website. Sites are snug but large amount of room behind towards the lake under shade trees.
If not for this one complaint it would be 5 stars.
We travel in a hard sided popup so we use facilities. We've been in hundreds of parks but this is by far the most bizarre shower arrangement. Both mens and womens showers are the same. 3 stalls in a T arrangement with 4' openings. small bench on one side, push button showers on the other. Zero privacy.
I'm old enough that in school all the gym showers were communal so it doesn't phase me, but when the view from my shower is straight into the handicapped shower in the middle I have to scratch my head.
You would think Clinton state park could spring for a plastic shower curtain to give some privacy to a handicapped person, hey for $10 more they could do all of them.
Millennials will hate these showers:)

Unfortunately this has become the norm on state side. Clouds and clouds of some nat like bug so bad it’s hard to even take a walk and depending on the day impossible to sit outside. It was the same way here last year as well during summer months. Spiders also were worse here than any of the other 24 states and over a year worth of solid traveling. I’m not sure why this would be the case in a state that gets hard freezes compared to other places we have been like Texas, Arkansas, Florida etc. I would avoid state side and go to Bloomington on the other side of the lake where there are far less bugs. Also slots on state side are just gravel.

Clinton SP is a large sprawling CG offering lots of roomy, quiet campsites. While we enjoyed our campsite once we were in it, our site was fairly unlevel and had a low hanging tree that made our arrival trickier than we’d hoped. Otherwise our 50amp and water worked fine throughout our stay, and the park has 2 easy to access dump sites that were never busy.
Clinton offers tent sites, 30apm/water, and 50amp/water ($23 a night plus a $2.75 booking fee), and in addition to the nightly fee, there is a $5 a day park entrance fee for those of us without a KS State Park Pass. Sites are very natural (what you hope for in a state park) and offer plenty of privacy, and while they are generally big rig friendly, they also obviously vary in shape and ease of access. Clinton SP is conveniently located off the highway, and relatively close to town. We were in CG 3, which meant we were about 2 miles from the park entrance, so when we Ubered downtown, we drove to the office and parked there to meet our driver there. Verizon worked fine during our stay without the booster, and check-in at the office was quick and easy with kind helpful park staff.
