“Sprawling Mansions in a Natural Setting”
Natchez State Park is located just 10 miles north of historic Natchez, the oldest settlement on the Mississippi River. Prior to the Civil War, over half of the millionaires in the entire United States lived in Natchez, constructing elegant mansions unrivaled in size and elegance by any in the nation. Most of these splendid homes were spared during the Civil War, and many are now open for tours. Natchez State Park is also famous in its own right. The largest bass in Mississippi history - a largemouth weighing 18.15 pounds - was caught in Natchez Lake in 1992.

We stayed two nights in Natzhez, MS area. The first was here, and the second was in the parking lot of the visitor center right along the Mississippi River. This spot was great, fairly undeveloped and quiet, really nestled into the wooded surroundings.

My review of this campground is affected by the fact that the site we booked was under 4 inches of mud and there did not seem to be anyone monitoring the sites to see if they needed care.
The campground itself is nice and quiet. It's a half hour from town and right near the Natchez Trace. Because our visit was to see Natchez AND because we had pouring rain for a day we did not get to hike around as much as we would have liked.
Pros? It's convenient, quiet, most sites are nice and in general well laid out. It's VERY dog friendly with lots of dog walkers. There is a washer and dryer ($1 each)-but catch it early in the morning especially after a rain. The bathrooms are clean and showers good. It seems that the sites farther from the entrance are better situated since where we were they were quite close together although staggered so a bit more private. The ones on the outside of the loop had more space and faced away.
Cons: Our site (#29) and the one next to us, were at the bottom of small slopes and when the rains came so did the mud. When we arrived there was no gate and no check in so we simply parked where assigned although there was a good 4" of mud and water through which we had to wade when getting in and out of the rig. It dried up the second day but was back the next time it rained. Because the CG was crowded and because we saw no "officials" we did not ask about changing our site but I did call when we left and suggested the site be closed or cleaned. For a number of reasons this would not be a good site though.
Electricity and water are at the site, there's a dump station on the way out.
We had almost no cell service here. Every so often we'd have a bar.
It is a good place to stay though if you want to see Natchez and have quiet at night for not too much money as well as at the beginning or end of a run on the Trace.

This park has 2 campgrounds A & B. I had planned on staying at A cause it was closer but when I arrived it was closed( No mention of this on website. I had to turn around in somebody's driveway on horrible road which was not easy. B is much further in and if you don't have a reservation you have to drive even further to get to the office which was also closed. Waited 15 minutes until a staff person showed up. The office is very far from campground so you have to blindly pick a site. Soon as I backed in neighbor came over and showed me a pic of huge snake he had shot the day before. Lol Was fine for one night and dump station was best I've seen in awhile.

A quick trip into Natchez. Quiet, the water hook up is old and leaked so we filled our tank and used it to run water. We were close to the dump to empty grey water. Nice trails in the woods. 3 nights would have been perfect, but we stayed 4 after a 500 mile day to get there.

Other reviews hit most of the major points. These are my specific observations. We were in Campground B where all sites have water hookups and 30A electric. Water is good, but tastes treated... a good filter (like the Camco TastePURE- I have no affiliation) helps. Clean power at my site. Level sites on concrete pads. There is a "Bathhouse" with clean restrooms and showers, as well as a washer and dryer. Not bad at $1 per load. There is a nice park area down by the park office. It's on a lake and has large open areas and a nice playground for the kids. I was surprised to not find much in the way of hiking trails given the large space the park occupies. But, that may be because it is located next to the Natchez Trace Parkway. If you haven't driven the Trace, put it on your list. One of the most beautiful, serene drives in America (444 miles worth). Plan to drive it down to Natchez for a day and soak up some great history.

We stayed here March 17 - 19, 2018. Excellent stop for exploring the Natchez Trace Parkway, Vicksburg, and Jackson areas. Clean, neat, and taken care of. They will be doing road work shortly so take heed. If you follow the GPS come off I-84 it will take you in the back way which is very rough and in some spots unpaved and very soft.

We arrived here December 4th, early afternoon and there were only 4 other people in the park. Payment is made at the visitors center. They ask you not to leave anything at a site until AFTER it is paid for at the office.
The sites vary in size and have electric and water, fire ring and picnic table. Our site had access to the lake. The bathhouse on the "B" loop (which is where we were) seems newer and has great hot showers and laundry facilities. There is only one washer and drier and are only a $1 each. There is also a soda machine in the laundry room. The whole facility is well maintained and clean.
Be sure to drive through both loops to find the site that is right for you. There are both pull through and back in sites.
We found the park to be fairly quiet and had a decent amount of wildlife including deer that roam around close at night.
The town of Natchez is not that far away and if you are looking for a great place for lunch, try the Magnolia Grill on the water front!

Pleasant campground stay although our particular site could have used some love. No grill, rough picnic table, and the fire pit had heaved making it unusable. But...it was pleasant here, paved sites, quiet with clean bathrooms. Decent ATT & Verizon service for most needs except streaming

All of the previous reviews appear accurate.
Both Campgrounds A & B were open during our visit. Our lakefront view site #37 was more like a canal front view, the main lake was around a bend in the woods from the campsites in loop B.
Our site was fairly level and just deep enough to fit the truck and 27 foot trailer. Bathrooms were nice and dump station was usable.
We visited this campground from 03/11/19 until 03/14/19.

Access to the park was okay. The road in was two lanes with no shoulders but adequate. Signage was good. The interior roads are paved and in fair condition. There are some pot hoes and after a rain are covered in mud
Our main site, B loop 25, was a back in. It consisted of a level concrete slab with a raised concrete patio that was on a hill about 8 feet away from the pad. Utilities were 50 and 30 amp power and water located at the left side. We had a rough table, fire pit and a raised grill. The sites were nicely spaced. Before we could set up camp, I had to borrow a shovel from Mr. Ranger to clear off a layer of mud from the left rear corner of the slab. Erosion over years had allowed dirt and grass to take over and I needed the full site to fit us and our towed. The park was full as it was Thanksgiving and there was not another spot I could move to at that time. We did move to site three in the A loop after a number of days as our site turned into a lake. We had to step in up to three inches of water the day after we arrived as it had rained heavily. We should have expected as much because of the layer of mud we encountered upon arrival.
We noted that there was pretty much zero attention paid to rules and regs by park staff. Multiple vehicles at some sites parked on the grass and partly blocking roads created driving hazards. Dogs and cats (yes cats) ran free. After the rain the paved roads may as well have been mud bogs. You could not walk without sloshing through mud. There is a serious drainage problem here.
The setting is spectacular. Nestled into a forest of mature hardwoods I can believe that it could be a peaceful paradise. Just not during the season were attended. Loud Thanksgiving parties, the rain and mud did not make for a pleasant stay. Many of the sites are under large oak trees. We spoke with one camper that had to leave early as their trailers roof was hard and the sound of the acorns hitting it kept them awake all night.
We were here for two weeks using this as a base to visit the very interesting city of Natchez and the Trace.
There are no services within walking distance but a short drive to the City of Natchez has all the amenities needed.
We paid $22 per night and felt we received fair value for our dollar. Park needs to be better policed and maintained. We would stay here again but never again in loop B site 25 or in the fall.
