“full of musical & cultural history”
In Louisiana’s French and Spanish Era of the 18th Century, slaves were commonly allowed Sundays off from their work. They were allowed to gather in the “Place de Negres”, "Place Publique", later "Circus Square" or informally "Place Congo" at the back of the town where the slaves would set up a market, sing, dance and play music. Preserving the historic meeting space of slaves in the 1800s and celebrating the undeniably rich jazz history of New Orleans, Armstrong Park is a site of cultural reflection and a commitment to continuing the community spirit
Reviews
The day we went to visit, there were only a few people present. Those that were present looked a little shady, so we did not enter the park but viewed it from the sidewalk. There was not much to see and nothing going on.
