“Learn about a world within a world”
This museum is something quite special. It offers you the opportunity to learn about a world within a world. The Deaf community is just like any other group. We all have hopes and dreams and ambitions — and most of all, we all have history. It is that history that tells the story of being Deaf in America. Unlike other museums, the William J. Marra Museum of Deaf History and Deaf Culture takes you back through a rich heritage, right up to the present day and then catapults you into the future. The Marra Museum introduces you to the Deaf culture and leaves you wanting more. Come, experience what it’s like to live in a world where there is a “Different Way to Hear.” We are a non-profit 501c3 Foundation. We offer group tours and special events by appointment. There is no admission fee but donations are greatly appreciated. Memberships are available starting at $5.00 a month.
Reviews
This is a nicely done museum, and I did learn some things about Deaf culture. There is no fee to enter, but they do take donations. There is also a gift shop where you can buy things to support the museum.
There was a nice volunteer that showed us to the video/sitting area to start our self guided tour. There is a book you can sign as to where you are visiting from. We didn't have a lot of time, so we did the whole thing rather quickly (30-40 minutes.) To do it properly, I'd recommend about an hour to 2 hours.
