“inside Hotel Lowrey”
The LeFlore County Museum is located inside Hotel Lowrey at the corner of Dewey Ave and Witte Street in Poteau, but the building itself is a historical site to see. A luxury hotel from the 1920s, the Hotel Lowrey was situated between two railroad lines in prime real estate when it was constructed. A unique design feature of the Lowrey is the unique tile in each bathroom purchased from different failing tile manufacturers and reflects the work of local artisans. The museum itself features a wide variety of history from the surrounding areas including the Poteau Runestone, Heavener Runestone (and its Viking roots), artifacts from past businesses and classrooms, old hotel memorabilia and of course a good ghost story or two.
