“a fine example of the renaissance”
Our bed and breakfast was built circa 1904 and is a fine example of the renaissance style promoted by famed Venetian architect Andrea Palladio. The building was once home to the George T. Hitch jewelry store, whose hand painted sign remains visible on the left hand side of the third level. Local artist, Betty Branch, had her first art studio here and it was once a school for aspiring secretaries. The building sat derelict for years and was saved from the wrecking ball by a grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. In 1991 the building was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
