“I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil!”
Proctor’s Ledge is believed to be the site at which 19 innocent people were hanged in 1692 for the supposed crime of witchcraft. A memorial stands on the site, featuring a granite wall with the names of the 19 hanged for their "crimes" and an oak tree, a symbol of endurance. The hangings likely occurred on an oak.
Reviews
The memorial is located in a residential neighborhood. There is no parking, so visitors are advised to park at Gallows Hill Park and walk down the hill to the site. It was easy to find, quick walk from the parking lot, and a very nicely done memorial. Worth a visit if you're in or passing through town.
