“mountain spring-fed lake, gorges, and waterfalls”
The mountain spring-fed Lake Jocassee encompassed by the Jocassee Gorges, waterfalls accessible only by boat and some of the best South Carolina trout fishing are all part of the allure of Devils Fork State Park. The land around 7,500-acre Lake Jocassee remains mostly undeveloped and the only public access point to the lake is through Devils Fork. Four mountain streams and several waterfalls feed into the lake, making it cooler than others and a great South Carolina trout fishing spot. Plus, the unusually clear water of Lake Jocassee is a haven for scuba divers and swimmers. During the spring months, hikers on the two trails are treated to sightings of the endangered Oconee bell wildflower. The Bear Cove Trail, a loop trail that begins and ends between the two picnic shelters, is located in the day-use area. This moderate hiking trail is 2 miles in length and winds through a predominately hardwood forest. The Oconee Bell Nature Trail is an easy 1-mile loop trail that received its name for the rare wildflower that can be found along the footpath. Two campgrounds are located near the shores of Lake Jocassee. Restrooms with hot showers are conveniently located in the campgrounds. Twenty villas are fully-furnished and include linens, all kitchen appliances, basic cooking and eating utensils, heat, air conditioning, microwave, satellite television, complimentary wi-fi, automatic coffee maker, screened porch, charcoal grill and picnic table. Jocassee is the only lake in South Carolina offering both trophy trout and a smallmouth bass, and has become a favorite fishing spot for anglers throughout the Southeast. The deep, crystal-clear water provides an excellent habitat for many species of fish, including brown trout, rainbow trout, white bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, bluegill and black crappie. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required. WI-FI! We now have complimentary wi-fi at all of our villas at Devils Fork. We also have wi-fi at the Park Visitor Center for campers and other guests who may need access. We hope this helps to enhance your stay!

Stayed at this campground for two nights mid-May and it was awesome. A small beach front with clear, crisp Lake Jocassee water perfect for swimming and other recreational activities. The campground was clean, the people were polite and accommodating, and it is very relaxing. We came mid week so it was not very crowded, although we heard it gets pretty busy on the weekends. Enjoy!
October 15, 2018 Can see Lake Jocasse thru the trees from this site. Sites 41, 40, back up to water. Looked level but isn't. Asphalt. ATT, 2 bars no wifi several air tv. Grill and fire ring combo. Bathrooms good, clean. Roomy showers. Walked down behind our site on a path thru the woods to the lake, beachy area. Dump station tilts the wrong way, so our tanks didn't get thoroughly emptied.

PROS: Spacious sites, all wooded and shaded, most include both paved RV pad and a tent pad at each site. We were in site 30 furthest from lake but a very private woodland view. Lake is gorgeous stone bottom, clear water with minimal development. Very popular due to its boat ramps for lake access. Our Verizon signal was adequate for working and streaming.
CONS: RV sites are not true waterfront as there are woods obscuring the view. Some sites have a long windy walk around figure 8 loops to get to the water. There are no shortcuts between loops or to the bathrooms. Bathrooms were lacking toilet paper and dirty. Access to swimming usually involves climbing stairs, hills or over rocks. Not much to do besides swim and boat. Bring your groceries, not much shopping around other than small convenience stores.

The park has beautiful roads, access to the lake (so much access) and we had a great experience with our camp host. Our pedestal wasn’t working and they got maintenance to come right away to diagnose issue. The bathrooms were clean and it looks like they do a great job keeping the park maintained. If you’re a boater or just love the water, this is a great park.

Let's start with the campground (this IS Campendium, right?).
The site was pretty unremarkable, which is kind of a compliment mostly. The pad was paved (older asphalt) with a gravel tent pad. Plenty of space, level enough, and the "back in" difficulty level was a 5 or 6 out of 10. Neighbors were quiet, hosts were friendly. The bath house could use some updates, primarily to the showers, but I've definitely seen a lot worse. It wasn't bad enough to keep me from using the shower.
Now let's talk about the park and the lake (trust me, you're here for Lake Jocassee).
There are almost zero amenities here besides the lake. Which is just fine, because WOW what a lake it is! There are very few lake houses, no marinas and the number of boats put in at the three ramps are limited daily so the lake is super quiet. The lake itself is absolutely gorgeous. Super clear water, several waterfalls that fall directly into the lake and big mountain views.
Just BE WARNED: The main boat ramp (by the ranger station ) will fill up to capacity by 9 am at the latest. If you don't make it before the cutoff, you will not be boating today. There are two other boat ramps, a day use ramp and another ramp intended for use by those staying at the boat-in campsites. Parking is extremely limited at both of these ramps, and, critically, NEITHER RAMP HAS A COURTESY DOCK OF ANY KIND. This makes putting in and taking out pretty tricky, especially solo as there is also nowhere good to beach near these ramps as they're surrounded by rip rap and rocks.
That said, any inconvenience is totally worth it for the experience of the lake.
