The Beach Lodge can only be reserved from May 1 through the Thursday before Memorial Day and from the day after Labor day until October 15. Reservations must be made through the park office at 319-624-2200. The Beach Lodge will be closed the remainder of the time.

Signage to get into "Modern campground" not good. Missed it & wound up in a dead end parking lot. Thank goodness there was only one car parked, so we could unhook our toad & navigate our 40' MH through the tight turn to get out. Then, scraping trees at entry. VERY tight spots, almost on top of each other. Watched a guy with a large 5th wheel try to get into his spot for at least 20 minutes. The guy across from him had to move his truck out of his spot in order for the 5er to be able to get in.
Our bad, but when we made reservations, no full hookup sites were available, so we settled for one we thought, based on their website (& our confirmation) with 50amp and water. When I drive ahead to check out where our space was, lo and behold every two sites shared a water spigot. No where on their site indicated water was shared. We had no choice but to back in & we hooked up our splitter on the water spigot, but only after searching for a camp host or ranger for at least 20 minutes. No one to be found anywhere. We had prepaid, but someone else's name was posted at our site even though it was late in the day.
As I said, sites are on top of each other, and our neighbors were up being VERY loud until about 2am. Felt sorry for the campers in pop ups - there's no way they got any sleep due to the noisy neighbors. Not surprising, as the camp host does not appear to do much & have yet to see a ranger. Picnic table was nasty and had 6" x 6" gouges out of the top. It obviously should have been replaced a long time ago. Couldn't even use it.
Beach is overrun with locals, parking lot was jammed. We completely blew that off.
Long story short, we would not stay here again. It is definitely misleading to call this a "modern campground". The non-modern campground must be really awful. So unimpressed we did not take pictures.

Visited out of season. Bathrooms closed and services off, but still power and a dump station - all we needed.
Very quiet - 3 other people in the whole park. Close to nice trails and Macbride nice to visit, cell service a bonus.
Definitely not level - it was drive up season, I couldn't get enough to level my rig, even after changing sites.
Also, cash at the door in a 'box' - BYO Pen which we didn't do, that was the worst part of the trip :P.
I do note some sites also quite close, it may be crowded here in peak season.

We chose this to start our full-time RV experience because we know the area and bought the trailer close by. Good for us because we had an issue with the jack the very first day! Our dealer (Sun and Fun in Tiffin, Iowa--kudos) did us right in coming to replace early the next morning. Reasonably priced, close to friends/family. The park has its pluses and minuses, but we enjoyed our start in spite of the issues.

We stayed May 2021 in Sugar Bottom primitive campground for $12. Nice grassy sites with large fire rings, clean toliets, fishing area, boat ramps. Grab groceries before coming into town, not much in the tiny town. Locals are friendly.
